Jesus spelled out in sign language. There are over 300 million Deaf people in the world, more than 36 million of these depend on sign language for communication. If they were all put together they would be one of the top three unreached (or unevangelized) people groups in the world. Less than 2% claim to be Christians. Approximately 750 Deaf people die everyday without knowing Jesus. We need your help to reach these people with the gospel!

Raymond and Kathryn Montoya - Missionaries to the DeafRay and Kathryn are both hearing, but God has called us to reach the deaf worldwide by; equipping churches for deaf ministries, providing tools to reach the lost deaf, mission trips to Deaf in other countries and sponsoring deaf ministries and orphans. Just like other missions, the deaf have their own language (American Sign Language) and culture, but many deaf people live in our neighborhoods. People don’t have to move to a third world country to reach one of the largest unreached people groups in the world.

CB Deaf Ministry helps you learn sign language by providing the tools you need. While Kathryn signs and Ray sings you can use our Worship Workshops and Workshop Specials, which makes learning sign language becomes fun and easy. We also provide prayer and ministry support. Please contact us if you would like us to visit your church of christian fellowship.

March 2013 Prayer Letter
Deaf Community in Leveque
I can do all things through Christ

"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength" Philippians 4:13

Hello everyone! I pray that this letter finds you all growing closer to the Lord and dwelling in His presence. The verse above has been my "motto" for the past several weeks as the Lord is asking me to do bigger and bigger things in Haiti. But before I ask for prayer for those things, I want to give you some updates!

The Church in Leveque, Haiti
Leveque Church Building

The church construction is almost complete. The roof is on and the windows are done. Now painting and interior things need to be done and it will be ready for us to start using it. Please pray that all will go well. "We are excited to begin worshiping in the new building as soon as possible" William.

William and Berthide: Married at Last!
William and Berthide

Our Deaf pastor in training William Saint Eloi and his beautiful bride Berthide were married on February 2, 2013. It was such a joy to join the Deaf community to witness this celebration. God has truly blessed this couple and they will be such an inspiration to the other Deaf people in their community. Please pray for their marriage, that they will be blessed and used by God for His glory.

Pastors in Training
Benoit and Jacques Wilson

This month it will be one year since I started training William to be a pastor to the Deaf. I am excited to announce we now have 2 more pastors-in-training, Benoit and Jacques Wilson. Both of these men have grown up attending the Haitian Christian Center for the Deaf in Bon Repo, a Christian school for the Deaf where they received a valuable education in God's word. Unfortunately, that school has closed down, but their work is still having affects on the Deaf in Haiti. With 3 Deaf pastors, we will be able to reach many more Deaf in Haiti for Christ. Please pray for these 3 men, that God will use them for His glory.

Homes in Leveque

There are now over 103 Deaf adults and their families living in Leveque. The construction crews (including the deaf crew) are working hard to make sure that 10 deaf families can move in each month. Ten more families should be moving in this month. I enjoy being in Leveque on moving day. The smiles and excitement are contagious and everyone celebrates as the Deaf community grows larger each month! Please pray that the funding and construction of the homes continues to move forward until all of the Deaf living in the temporary shelters will have permanent homes.

Albert
Albert

If you have been following the story of Albert then you will happy to hear that two surgeons volunteered to do his heart surgery in the near future. Please be in prayer for his paperwork to go through so that he can come to the US for his surgery. Albert is a 17 year old deaf boy who has no language and is very small due to malnutrition. He now lives in Port Au Prince and I get to see him once in a while when I am in Haiti. I have taught him some sign language, but he is not around the deaf enough to grasp it completely. We are praying he will be able to move to Leveque when his health is better.

Haitian Sign Language

Many people do not realize that every country has their own sign language. In Haiti it is called Haitian Sign Language or HSL. Unfortunately this language is not yet complete and relies heavily upon American Sign Language for much of its vocabulary. As I have spent time in Haiti, I have been learning some of the differences in the two languages. Here is a short video of me and the community coordinator Mackenson St. Louis showing the difference between ASL and HSL:

Sign Language Video Bibles

With technology booming I have been able to create a device that is a small hand held video player that is solar powered (as there is no electricity in Leveque) and has the ASL bible on it. This allows Deaf Haitians to "read" the bible on their own in the privacy of their home in their own heart language. We brought down 5 prototypes in January and the results are amazing. This is what some of them had to say:

"This helps me to understand God's word better. I will b eable to memorize it more." Jacques Wilson
"Wow, I can understand the bible! Can I get one?" Reynold
"Using this (video bible) I can understand the bible clearly" Alexis Gansley

Support

As you can tell by all of my reports, I have been very busy. Thank you so much for all your prayers and encouragement. At this time Ray and I have come to the conclusion that I need to transition into full-time ministry. If you can spare just $10 a month God can use and multiply that to supply our needs. We appreciate all prayers and financial support. Please Click Here if you would like to support me or this ministry.

We pray as you celebrate Christ's resurrection you are filled with His love and mercy.

Blessings,
Ray and Kathryn

CBDM has been able to create a personal bible viewer that is solar powered. The deaf can now "read" the bible in their own heart language in their homes. The viewer contains the ASLV of the bible created by Deaf Missions. This is especially important for those who cannot read the written language in their country. Watch this video to see it in action. If you would like to donate a bible viewer for a deaf person in Haiti please contact me!
