They are receptive to the gospel, however we have many challenges.
Concerning the denomination we are born again Christians, but we work with any one who has the same burden and who wishes to evangelize and help the deaf as long as he/she honors our Christian doctrinal statement and having the same VISION to evangelize the Deaf so that they also gain in His promises towards mankind and also to overcome the coming judgment.

Immanuel Church of the Deaf - Kenya Deaf Art
|
Church Affiliation: Deaf Ministries International
Name of Minister: Reverend Josephat Mulongo Iyadi (Deaf)
Number of Deaf Attending: 70 to 150
Number of Deaf Leaders: 3 Pastors, 15 Evangelist and 2 Church Leaders
How We Evangelize the Deaf:
The preachers preach the word of God through sign language and an interpreter to translate the sermon in cases where a hearing pastor is invited to share with us. The youth participate in signed drama and singing.
Description of Ministry:
This ministry was started in 1986 by Pastor Daniel Njihia. After college pastor Josphat Mulongojoined the church and was appointed a pastor. Pastor Daniel moved to Tanzania and Josphat took over with the leadership of the church with three branches. Right now we have 17 branches in different districts in Kenya. Main office is in mother church in Nairobi and it co-ordinates other branches. The Evangelist preach to the Deaf adults during the Sunday service and also teach the Deaf children in different public, mission and private Deaf schools in Kenya at PPI lessons and Sunday school. The women have a self help group that runs a tailoring workshop. This group mostly assists in caring for Deaf who have HIV/AIDS. We also have a youth project that carries the vision of this ministry. We give Bible training to the youth who go out to reach their fellow youths and children. The active youths reach out to others through songs, art, preaching and drama.
Projects, Needs, Prayer Requests:
The women have a tailoring workshop where they saw clothes and knit sweaters to help them earn a living according to God's word "For thou shall eat the labor of thy hands, happy shall thou be and it shall be well with thee." Psalm 128:2. We also are in the process of registering a college for sign language to teach the hearing people so that they can assist the deaf in communication.
The youth have a project where they record songs and drama, pertaining to Christian teachings sent it to other Deaf youths. They travel all over the country to preach the gospel of Christ. They are involved in art work as well.
Most of deaf youth are together in our local organization Kenya Deaf Art which we would like to uplift to an international level through performances locally and outside Kenya. We would like to equip the organization's office and to own a facility for training: dancing, drama and art work because at the moment we rent.
The women project needs a sewing machine and a knitting machine. The number of Deaf women is rapidly increasing and they need to work to earn a living for their families. We need teaching materials for the college, the college will offer the following-Sign language for both deaf and hearing people, Upgrading/revision English and mathematics lessons for young and adults deaf people who did nor perform well or were not lucky enough to get education and their age and status cannot allow them to join primary or secondary schools.
Need materials that can facilitate the spread of the gospel like Bibles, Bible picture rolls for Deaf children, Bible story books. Need to reach out to others who have not hard the Good News. We have evangelists who have trained in Bible college who should be sent to the field.".The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few, pray thee the Lord of the harvest would sent forth His labourers into his harvest." Matt 9:37

Strive Deaf Chapel in Mombasa, Kenya
|
Church Affiliation: None
Name of Minister: Paul Aseka (Deaf)
Number of Deaf Attending: 36
Number of Deaf Leaders: 3
How We Evangelize the Deaf:
We visit houses and places of work. Since we dont have our own church yet, we pray in our houses on rotation basis. We use sign language as our principal communication method.
Description of Ministry:
Its located in Mombasa, Kenya where 80% of resodents are Muslims. Because of deverse backgrouds of our members we are a none denominational chapel with a quest to know Christ more and more.
The reasons behind the formation of the club was to address the issues that affcts the deaf in their day to day lives such as unemployment, lack of accessible health services, raising cases of hiv/aids among the deaf, lack of quality education and lack of sign language interpretation services among other things.
Mombasa being a port city and the second larges in kenya, after nairobi it is very populated and islam is the dominant religion. This created a dilema for deaf christians. We came up with the idea of a chapel of the deaf where deaf people of different dinominations can come together and worship together. The chapel is located on the outskirts of mombasa town but plans are under way to bring it to a cenrtal location easily acessible.
The aims and objectives of the strive deaf chapel are:
- To address the spiritual needs of the deaf population in mombasa
- To make church services of the deaf more easy, accsssible, and enjoyable by using the language which they can identify with -ie sign language.
- To address the health needs of the deaf which we believe is very essential.this is done thro the hiv/aids and health departments.
We collaborate with other health service providers such as the government and private hospitals and voluntary counselling and testing centers.
- To collaborate and work with other deaf churches/ ministries all over the world.
- To advocate for quality education of the deaf. We work with schools for the deaf, parents of the deaf, teachers of the deaf and the goverment special education department.
We also have sign language classes which targets:
- Parents with deaf children
- Social workers
- Police
- Nurses
- Doctors
- Those who would like to be sign language interpreters
- Spouses with deaf partners
We also have a nursery school and baby play school. It targets the working deaf parents.
Projects, Needs, Prayer Requests:
HIV/AIDS awareness project, job placement, reproductive and general health, assisting the poor.
In order to stay focused on our cause and aim, we strive to finance all our activities and operations. This is done thro personal contributions, money raised thro training of sign language and nursry schools. However when we have a major project like the one we have now of relocating to a larger and more spacoius hall in to have all our operations and deapartments under one roof, we find it difficult to meet all our targets / expectations.
We are in the process of relocationg to a larger hall which will host our chapel, offices, nursery school and meeting rooms. This project ie esteemed to cost about 7800 usd. We have so far raised about 1000 usd, 4 new pews and some nursery school equipments. We are appealing to friends and deaf ministries to assist us in any way possible to complete our project by the end of this month since it is already underway and almost half complete.
Our long term goals are the training of deaf pastors and bible workers expected to start by the second half of the year and the computerising all our operations.

Pastor Paul Waful with Bungoma Immanuel Church for the Deaf in Kenya, East Africa
|
The Word of Life Christian Fellowship is a family Church with a world vision. Our doors are wide open to receive all those whom the Lord impresses upon to join us. WE are always determined not to know anything about you except Christ and Him crucified (I Cor 2:2)
In Word of Life Christian Fellowship, we experience God through worship and touch him with our faith in the word. These two items are central in our Christian walk as we endeavour to know Him more everyday. We have established an abiding belief in the following prisms which we practice and embrace whole heartedly and they form the basis of what is most important to us:
- To worship the Lord wholeheartedly in spirit and in truth
- To minister to one another
- To reach the lost for Jesus Christ
- To care for one another as Jesus care for us
- To help others grow and fulfil their destiny and purpose on earth
- To live under the authority of God's word and to know him personally and intimately.
We were grew new Church in five (5) years upto now, when the church began a few years ago. We did not envisage the very things we have seen God do in our midst. We think and continue to see God's miraculous hand at work. We have attempted to highlight some of the things God has done, what he has been revealing to us and where he is taking us.
The church is challenged by God word to worship him in spirit and truth (John 4:24). We are look for fund to buy land to build our church may you welcome to kenya and visit us.
Thanks God be with you more

Many deaf people who are unsaved in the village.
